Experience the best of the Cairns Tablelands region with Billy Tea Safaris. Exploring the high-country west of the city, sampling local produce and meeting local characters along the way. From Cairns, we climb to 500 metres above sea-level and drive out of the rainforest and on to the multi-cultural village of Mareeba and award-winning Coffee Works for an introduction to Australia's largest coffee growing region.
Travel on the through coffee plantations, sugar cane, and through the townships of Tolga and Atherton on route to Historic Village Herberton, voted on Trip Advisor as one of the top 10 museums in Australia. Enjoy a selection of local tropical fruit and Gallo's cheese platter with a cup of local tea.
Then it's on to lunch stop at the Australian Platypus Centre and Smokehouse Cafe along Queensland's highest scenic drive with epic views of the Tablelands and the Great Dividing Range. Walk into the forest to view one of Australia's oldest trees, the Curtain Fig Tree, standing at 500 years old.
Before lunch visit Millaa Millaa Falls and Lookout. On your return home, last minute shopping for local products at The Hump Store and then celebrate a beautiful day of exploration, learning and fun.
What to bring: A hat, a sunscreen, a camera, extra batteries, memory cards, a water bottle, extra cash for cold drinks, souvenirs or an ice-cream and raincoat in our rainy season.
What to wear: Comfortable clothes as you are in the tropics, our winter you may wish to take a light coat. Flat comfortable shoes or sandals. Preferable no thongs, shoes must have grip and ladies no high heels as there is uneven ground.
Conditions: Child aged 0 to 14 years pays the child price. Billy Tea Safaris will provide baby seats or booster seats for children up to 7 years of age. Itineraries may be changed or run in reverse at the discretion of Billy Tea Safaris, some parts of the tour may not be carried out as per brochure at certain times of the year due to weather and road conditions, the decision made on the day by our guides and it is final. We may not get to some of our tour destinations depending on weather, or other factors and this is the discretion of the driver on the day.
