Kata Tjuta, formerly known as the Olgas, is a group of large ancient rock formations approximately 30 kilometres away from Uluru in Australia's Red Centre. Together these giant stone formations form the two major landmarks within the Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park. The 36 domes that make up Kata Tjuta are spread over an area of more than 20 kilometres. The highest point is Mount Olga, which was named in honour of Queen Olga of Wurttemberg.
Watch the spectacular sunrise over Kata Tjuta or the Olgas, with Uluru in the distance, from the western dune viewing area. With views across the many domes of Kata Tjuta and into the sacred Anangu men's area, you'll be in awe of this natural wonder. The ochre coloured shapes are an intriguing and mesmerising sight which some travellers find even more captivating than the Uluru.

Enjoy the intimacy of a small group to view sunrise at Kata Tjuta and a walk with your Guide to the Valley of the Winds. Hear fascinating stories of the geology, history and culture of Kata Tjuta. This incredible formation of rock domes extends six kilometres into the ground and is the remains of erosion that began more than 500 million years ago. The walk to Valley of the Winds takes you down into a timeless haven within the domes through trickling creek beds.
Departing the resort you’ll be one of the first to enter Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park today. Travel to the Kata Tjuta Dune viewing platform and enjoy a warming tea, coffee or hot chocolate with your light breakfast. Watch the dawn creep across the desert plain and light up the domes of Kata Tjuta. Join your driver guide for the walk to the first lookout, Karu. Your guide will point out interesting rare plants along the way. If you’re feeling adventurous, take the challenging walk with your Guide to the second lookout, Karingana, and enjoy the spectacular views into the heart of this sacred men’s area. For something more sedate, join your driver guide for the walkthrough Walpa Gorge, following the path between two of the towering domes of Kata Tjuta.

The tour departs daily 95 minutes prior to sunrise from Ayers Rock Resort.

What to bring:
Enclosed walking shoes, sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, water bottle to hold 1 litre, warm layers in cooler months.
Conditions:
Child aged 2 to 15 years pays the child price. Infants under 2 years travel free of charge. Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Concession card holders with a valid concession card pays the concession price. Moderate to a good level of fitness is required. Valley of the Winds can be a little challenging but shorter walks are available for those not wanting to walk to the second lookout. Flights to depart after 13:30 from Ayers Rock Airport.
